Spot & Select

After my colleagues did some heavy testing, bug reporting and adding features to the wish list, I am very glad to announce my latest tool called MaxSpotlight.

First time I am releasing for 3Ds Max and finally the point to give something back to the Max community. I attached a small demo how things work, but I guess its more a tool which you have to feel to get a grasp. Please read the docs when you download it.

It is the first time I implemented and used on my webpage the Vimeo video player. I am planing to replace most, if not all, of my old videos in a better quality by utilizing Vimeo.

And one word regarding the FMX. I am very excited to be in roughly two weeks in Stuttgart again. I am specifically looking out for jobs in Australia for 2011. So if anybody knows somebody, please drop the word. :)
Thanks for looking by. I keep you updated.

nUrBs

New version of pb_rfAlongPath is online. I got some requests to add 3Ds Max support. Version 1.0.1 does that. I also updated and extended the documentation and did some minor code refactoring. Happy simulating.

Mighty Root

Lately everyone got familiar with Avatar's Pandora, but two weeks ago I opened my very own Pandora's box, which unleashed the world of …
UNIX upon me, specifically FreeBSD.

A long intended project finally got realized.
I am very excited to announce that Pixelbaker invested in a solid backup solution for my clients and my future freelance career.

10 TeraByte of storage bundled into a RAID5, driven by Suns award winning filesystem ZFS are securing former projects, as well as my day-to-day business. Also Apples TimeMachine directly backs up to my server and takes advantage of the RAID.
I personally chose every hardware component myself to maintain an energy efficient and not overpowered solution which doesn't suffer from feature creep.

I gained some deep and valuable insights while configuring this server. I want to thank Karsten Fuhrmann, administrator at Cartoon-Film, for answering my numerous questions.

Meanwhile I am closing in on my first year working for Cartoon-Film, which makes me very happy. At the current production I am getting more and more responsibilities.
I recently did a lot of skinning, correction shapes and finalizing of characters. So far I had every character on my desk - it feels great. Stay tuned.

Check It

My sore fingers are recovering from a wonderful and intense time at Cartoon-Film. I had the opportunity to script 58 checks plus framework.
The checks are going to maintain data quality throughout our complex 3D scenes and are being used in Berlin and in India, where they will aid the modeling, rigging and layout department. I enjoyed it so much, I am really looking forward to get into more scripting challenges like this.

But the story does not end here. I was given the chance to help the rigging department in Berlin from today on. I will support my supervisor and dear colleague Niels Roscher with reviewing the skinning and facial expressions of the characters done by the indian studio. ... to be continued
